It is mind boggling how many places you can order mead online from these days. Even though it’s still hard to get some from the local grocery or even liquor store, you don’t even need to get off the couch if you want to get some good mead and cider. And in today’s post-pandemic world, that’s a huge comfort.
Why Order Mead Online?
Simply put, it’s just hard to find. Like we mentioned, it’s not like the local liquor store is going to have it just sitting on the shelves, unless you special order it. And even then, there’s no guarantee that the mead you get is going to be well-crafted, or even good. At that point, you might as well just order mead online just to save yourself the trouble.
There are a few reasons why it’s so hard to find, though.
The first is size. The truth is, most meadries are really small, and their ability to produce the amount of mead to meet demand just isn’t there. And sadly, the mead market isn’t as large as the beer and wine markets. Though, the mead market is growing, which is why there are more than 500 meadries across the US, showing an increase in the demand for well-crafted mead.
The second is social stigma. Wine, for instance, is seen as “sophisticated” and “refined”, where mead is considered “unruly” and “crass”. We think this is a bit backwards since mead is the drink of the gods. But that is starting to change since there are now more mead tasting events than there are beer and wine tastings.
There’s also the issue of infrastructure. With inconsistent and, let’s face it, old laws both federally and from state to state, it makes transporting any alcohol across state lines difficult and expensive.
Often, it’s usually better to buy mead locally. But that doesn't mean your options are that limited.

This is for those who like their mead to be more wine oriented. Total Wine has over 100 superstores throughout the country, so if you happen to have one near you when you buy mead online, you could save a lot on shipping costs with their ship to store option.

This is one list that doesn’t discriminate. Here, you can find practically every mead producer in the United States, all listed alphabetically. You can also sort it by region and where they can ship to, opening a wealth of possibilities when it comes to who you order mead online from (you can even find a certain meadery that you can order your favorite Raven’s Claw Mead from).
Amazon
Yes, that Amazon. A few years ago, it got into the business of selling alcohol, so it shouldn’t be a shock that they would have a decent selection of mead and cider.
